LAUGHING DOLPHINS

Dolphins have such cheerful faces, frolicking about in the beautiful blue sea here on the Costa Blanca.

They have often been seen in the sea off the coast by Denia, not far from Benidoleig.

To me, they represent freedom and happiness, peace and goodwill which is something I wish to everyone.

BLUE JUG

Benidoleig on the Costa Blanca of Spain is a very green place with acres of orange groves in the valley bordered by mountains and ending at the beautiful blue sea at the Denia coast.

Blue jug is one of a series of paintings inspired by Van Gogh's Sunflowers of 1888. This one has bronze butterflies to represent transformation with the sunflowers of happiness. The blue is the colour of the sky over our valley and the green comes from the orange groves, bliss.

In this picture of swallowtail butterflies flying over a giant red sunflower from Laura Aldridge Art, you can almost feel the heat of the summer sun radiating out from the heart of the flower.

Here in Benidoleig on the Costa Blanca summers are long and hot, skies are blue and the sea is bluer. I am enjoying the view of the orange groves from my window with the mountains behind them and the blue blue sky above. A cool breeze is blowing in the window.

I HAVE WINGS!

I am very lucky and blessed to have received this award from Guardian Angels for computer training. I have been working on my website, which I couldn't have done without the expertise and help from Karla Dorocas, and will be studying Marketing and Digital Photography.

Guardian Angels is a charity for single parents on the Costa Blanca. President Tricia Barr and Vice President Gill Somers lead a wonderful group of caring people who have been incredibly supportive and helpful to me and many other single parents on the Costa Blanca.

THREE BUTTERFLY ABSTRACT

Butterflies and flowers form a never ending source of inspiration for me here at Laura Aldridge Art in Benidoleig on the Costa Blanca.

I am very blessed to be able to see a lovely variety of beautiful flowers and butterflies just outside my window.

Butterflies feed primarily on nectar from flowers and in doing so are important pollinators. They don't carry as much pollen as a bee can but can move the pollen over greater distances.

To me, the butterfly is important on many levels. It is a thing of beauty to enjoy watching flitting about in the sunshine. It is a source of inspiration. It represents transformation from one life phase to another. And it is an important pollinator.

Dreaming of summer on the Costa Blanca. Summers here are long and hot, winters short and mild.

With the beach a short distance from Benidoleig, days at the seaside are an all year round event. Pack up your beach chair, towel and picnic and you're all set for a day at the beach. Don't forget your book and bucket and spade!!

Here on the Costa blanca we have strong sunlight all year round and blue skies with hardly a cloud. We are very lucky to enjoy beautiful weather virtually all year round.

DREAMING OF SUMMER

Sunflowers are a favourite here at Laura Aldridge Art on the Costa Blanca. I never tire of their cheerful faces and sunny colours.

Looking at this painting of a field of sunflowers over which are flying a trio of blue butterflies, I am sitting at my computer dreaming of summer.

As I sit typing this, I look out of my window over the orange groves with mountains in the background and beautiful blue sky above and I am feeling thankful and grateful to be alive in such a beautiful setting.

I'm enjoying the summer heat and feeling the sand between my toes as I wander along the sea edge, beach combing for pretty shells and drift wood.

SUNFLOWERS IN A GREEN VASE

Sunflowers are a constant source of inspiration here at Laura Aldridge Art in Benidoleig on the Costa Blanca.

Sunflowers or Helianthus from the Greek for Helios meaning sun and anthos meaning flower are one of my favourite flowers. Tall and proud with cheerful yellow and sometimes red petals, big faces and often heart shaped leaves, it's no wonder they are considered the flower of happiness.

Sunflowers in a Green Vase is inspired by a picture by Vincent Van Gogh of Sunflowers from 1888 and is my homage to him.

Flowers are important here at Laura Aldridge Art in Benidoleig on the Costa Blanca, as they form an endless source of inspiration. I love the colours, the texture, their smell, how seeing a group of pretty flowers can lift my spirits and make me smile.

This spring bouquet echos the beautiful blue skies we are fortunate to see most days in the Costa Blanca.

In past times, certain flowers were considered to have particular meanings, for example red roses are given to express romantic love. Daisies signify innocence and loyal love.

These days, the giving of the flower and the sentiment with which it is given gives the gift its meaning. Give the gift with love and happiness and its meaning is clear.

Butterflies represent transformation, the changing of the caterpillar into pupa then into the adult butterfly with large colourful wings and conspicuous fluttering flight can often be seen as a metaphor for life as you emerge into the light as a new and improved version of yourself.
